Ingredients _______________________________________

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lime zest plus 1 teaspoon lime zest, divided,
  • 2 tablespoons lemon zest
  • 1½ cups freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 cups freshly squeezed orange juice
  • ¼ cup agave syrup
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • Lime slices, for garnish

Instructions _______________________________________

  1. In a small saucepan, mix the water and sugar together and place over medium heat.
  2. Add the two tablespoons of lime zest and the lemon zest.
  3. Slowly bring to a boil, stirring constantly to dissolve the sugar.
  4. When the sugar dissolves, remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool.
  5. After the citrus syrup reaches room temperature, add the lime juice, lemon juice, orange juice, and agave syrup.
  6. Mix well and chill for at least two hours and preferably overnight, so the flavors can marry.
  7. Mix one teaspoon of lime zest with the salt in a large saucer or shallow pie pan.
  8. Rim the edges of the margarita glasses with a lime wedge and then dip them into a plate full of rock salt.
  9. Pour into the prepared glasses and garnish with a lime slice.
